A successful trivia night has the right mix of difficulty levels, a balanced range of categories, and, most importantly, 100% accuracy. We are obsessed with giving you the perfect trivia experience so we thought we would give a breakdown of what makes us different.
Providing high quality trivia for 21 years
Our Writing Process
Every question in our trivia subscription goes through multiple stages before it ever reaches our customers. Here is our step-by-step process:
- Write the question.
- Check the answer.
- Review the wording.
- Check for potential multiple answers.
- Verify the answer with a second source.
- Test it live.
- Make edits to questions as needed.
- Rewrite any questions that didn't work based on crowd reception.
- Listen to audio of questions with a text-to-speech reader as a final wording check.
While this might sound excessive, the small details matter in trivia writing. Our goal is simple: questions should be clear and answers should be fair.
Live Audience Testing
One of the biggest advantages we have is that we host trivia ourselves every week. This means questions are tested in front of a live audience.
Every week, we watch how teams react:
- Did the question land the way we expected?
- Was the question easy to read out loud and easy to understand?
- Was the difficulty level right?
- Did anyone interpret it differently?
- Did someone come up with a technically correct alternative answer?
If anything feels off, we adjust it before it becomes part of the trivia packet.
The Editing Back-and-Forth
Our team has a write, rewrite (and sometimes rewrite again) approach. Check out a back-and-forth we had with just one single question:
And we comment on almost every question. That's a lot of conversation, but we think it's totally worth it. During this step of the process, we triple check sources, tweak wording, and sometimes even debate whether something is too easy or too hard.
